Inspired by the composer's 2008 trip to Beijing, Warriors of Beijing depicts the ancient battles of Qin Shi Huang, China's first emporer. His reign included unification and the building of the Great Wall as well as the burial of 8000 Terracotta Warriors in front of his tomb to defend him in the afterlife. Plenty of rhythmic punctuation (including off-beat accents), alternating 3/4 and 4/4 sections, and excellent percussion writing bring this work to life. It's sure to be a student favorite!
