Depicting the battle between 3 rival Viking tribes that resulted in the unification and ascension of Norway's first king, The Swords of Stavanger is an adventure from beginning to end. The opening and closing sections are fanfare-ish in nature with a lyrical B-section depiciting the peaceful hopefullness of unification. Accidentals, articulation markings, and more complex rhythmic patterns (various 8th and 16th note groupings) make this piece suitable for bands ready for that next step toward high school band literature.
