Robert Sheldon has written a fantastic piece based on the traditional fife and drum tune, The Girl I Left Behind Me. Popular during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution this familiar tune provides the source material for the other melodies in the piece. Opening in a straight-forward setting, moving to a lyrical B-section (with trumpet solo), and finishing with a climactic overlapping of themes similar to the writing of Gustav Holst, this work is sure to be a favorite for concert and contest programming.
