The powerful nature of this somber arrangement perfectly captures the soberingreality of the death of Christ. Arranger Joel Raney begins in a minor key for the first two verses, weaving strains of "O Sacred Head Now Wounded" in and out of the accompaniment. He then moves to the major key in the third verse and, with an exciting modulation, leads to the triumphant chorus at the end. The piano, oboe, cello, and voices weave an intensely passionate musical fabric, giving this historic tune fresh impact.
